I have loved black pearls since I first became aware of them in the 80's. There was this strand from Fiji that was valued at 20,000 that I will never forget.
SINCE THEN, the pearl market has grown and changed radically. There still are those many thousand dollar strands (and yes- they really look like it when you know what you are looking for)- but the freshwater pearls we are seeing these days do not resemble the "rice krispies" of our youth in any way.
What you see here is a strand of freshwater black pearls, the finest strand found out of hundreds. They have the luster, the "sorta round", the color variation, and the SIZE- these are about 14mm. They don't match one another but that is okay. Black pearls have SO MANY different colors. In order to make one perfect strand of about 20 plus saltwater pearls, one needs about a half million to choose from. And no- I am not even exaggerating!
Notice the clasp- an easy to use gold toggle. Round diamonds are set on the end of the "T" part.
At 20 feet, I would think that this is one of those large Tahitian strands. Close up, and expert can see that it isn't quite all of that. Still we love it and don't care! As long as the wearer knows the truth that is all that matters. Wear it and GRIN.
