Anvil/ Butterfly Crest

This anvil and butterfly design is the personal hallmark of groundbreaking and influential industrial designer Marc Harrison. He pioneered the concept of universal design, ensuring that everyone, including handicapped people, can use thoughtfully designed products.  Some of his well known and iconic designs are the Cuisinart, the American Red Cross Bloodmobile, the Boston Subway turnstile, the Universal Kitchen Project, and the Ilzro House.

Marc invented this crest to illustrate the concept of form follows function. The lightweight beauty of  butterfly wings as opposed to the solidity of a blacksmith's anvil is a marvelously straightforward visual explanation of this many-layered concept.

The Harrison Crest pendants are sculpted in bas relief in 14K and sterling silver.  They have a calming tactile nature, as the back is a concave form that fits a thumb perfectly.

Marc Harrison had a generosity of spirit and teaching which inspired many of us to carry the mission of Universal Design onward into the future.
