We were asked to make a ring that Mary, Queen of Scots would wear- something that would be a Tudor family heirloom. After a whole pile of fun and extremely interesting research, we chose to make this 18k yellow gold ring with a big, juicy ruby on top. The band has a perfect pattern of bead-set rubies, sixteen in total. To ease the visual transition, there are two bezel set rubies flanking the central gemstone. All of these rubies are much more red than appears in the photograph. The center stone is a genuine ruby which has been enhanced by the technique known as fissure filled. The tradeoff for the saving of the cost of a new car is is that you cannot take a torch to this stone. (Care instructions- do not heat up to 1800' Fahrenheit) This ring took several days to make, between the layout and the bead setting. The end result is worth it. It is a comfort- fit size 8 and cannot be sized.
